Bill Calls for Cyber Training for House Lawmakers

Staffers are currently required to undergo cybersecurity training, but members aren’t.
House lawmakers and their staffs would have to get mandatory cybersecurity training under a bill introduced Wednesday.
The bill from Rep. Kathleen Rice, D-N.Y., requires the chamber’s chief administrative officer to provide new members and staffers with cybersecurity training within one month of their start dates.
The bill would also require annual cyber training for current members and staffers who would have to certify that their training was current.
Congressional staffers currently have annual cybersecurity training, but there’s no requirement for members, a Rice staffer said.
Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., has pushed for enhanced cyber protections in the Senate.
