The U.S. Special Operations Command is soliciting white papers on encryption techniques for mobile devices that process and protect data with minimal computing capacity and in rapid time.
The Pentagon unit that oversees elite military units around the world is also seeking out improved communication technologies that offer increased transmission capacity as well as new battery and energy storage devices, according to a broad agency announcement issued May 29. The solicitation comes amid an explosion of tablet devices on an evolving battlefield that is creating new defense technology needs.
The document also spotlights a list of the Pentagon’s other technology demands, such as sensors to collect high-resolution, three-dimensional data through dense foliage, visual game technology to provide simulations for training, techniques to authenticate people biometrically, and techniques to miniaturize and lighten equipment to reduce the weight burden for ground troops.
The window for submissions closes on July 13. Selected respondents will be invited to submit proposals to be considered for defense funding. View the full document here.
