Google made some big announcements at its Pixel event on Tuesday. The tech giant is coming out with several new consumer gadgets to compete with other tech companies Apple and Amazon.

There are new smartphones, the Pixel 2, which measures 5 inches, and the Pixel 2 XL which is slightly larger. Both are water resistant, boast a 12-megapixel camera and come equipped with Google Assistant, the tech company's rival to Siri and Alexa.

The smartphones lack a headphone jack so the company also announced Bluetooth-connected headphones. called  Google Pixel Buds. They can do standard headphone tasks, like play music, but can also function as an automatic translation device. Two people speaking different languages can speak seamlessly, the company said. The earbuds can handle 40 different languages, so whether you speak French or Nepali or Croatian, you're covered.
